Rodent Control in Leawood, Kansas
Leawood is about trees and creeks. It sits on Overland Park's east side, up against State Line Road, and it's known for big lots, mature trees and long greenways along Tomahawk Creek and Indian Creek. North Leawood has older ranches on wooded lots. South Leawood has big newer homes near Town Center Plaza and Ironwoods Park.
All that green is great for an evening walk and tough on rodent control. Tree cover, ground cover and creek banks give mice and voles plenty of shelter close to the house, and a lot of homes add a pool house, detached garage or garden shed. Each one is another place to settle. That's how mice in pool houses and sheds turn into a fall call.
Oaks, Ground Cover and Vole Country in North Leawood
North Leawood, near State Line and the streets that border Prairie Village, has mid-century ranches and split-levels under big oaks and maples. They've got the same settling gaps as other older Johnson County houses. The yards are heavy on landscaping: mulch beds, ground cover, ornamental trees. Great for the look of the place, great for voles. Lawns and planting beds full of runways in March are a job for vole control.
Fall cleanup helps a lot. Make the last mow a short one, pull the mulch back from trunks and the foundation, and keep the firewood rack well away from the house.
Pool Houses and Big Rooflines South of 135th
South Leawood homes are larger and newer, often with walkout basements, more than one garage and long rooflines. More structure, more places to check. The tech will look at soffits, roof returns, garage door corners and anywhere a tree hangs over the roof, so ask about sealing the soffits and roof returns. Pool houses, sheds and detached garages can all be part of the same visit. Bigger house, longer walk-around, so plan on the first visit taking a while. These homes have a lot in common with Blue Valley in south OP.

Along the Tomahawk Creek Trail
The Tomahawk Creek Trail starts at Leawood City Park on Lee Blvd and runs southwest along the creek past Tomahawk Park on 119th and I-Lan Park on Nall. Houses backing onto that corridor see more field mice, more voles and now and then a rat. Ironwoods Park has its own wooded trails, and the homes around it get the same fall push of field mice. Rats are rare in Leawood, but burrows under a shed near the creek are worth a rat inspection. If you're on the creek, our guide to feeders and wood piles is worth a look. Indian Creek, the bigger neighbor, runs past the offices along College Boulevard.

Questions We Get
Are voles going to kill my new trees?
They can girdle a young tree by chewing the bark all the way around over the winter. A hardware cloth wrap at the base is cheap insurance.
Can they check the pool house while they're out?
Yes. Mention it on the call. Pool houses, sheds and detached garages can all go on the same visit.
